Page 1, Line 1WHEREAS, Commissioner Lewis "Lew" Leon Gaiter III was born
Page 1, Line 2to Sandra and Lew Gaiter Jr., in Denver, Colorado, on November 21, 1959; and

Page 1, Line 4WHEREAS, Commissioner Gaiter grew up in Littleton, Colorado,
Page 1, Line 5graduating from Littleton High School in 1977, and attended Colorado
Page 1, Line 6State University for two years before starting his career in the computer industry; and

Page 1, Line 8WHEREAS, Commissioner Gaiter married his wife, Jeannette, on
Page 2, Line 1March 14, 1981, in Fort Collins, Colorado, going on to have nine children; and

Page 2, Line 3WHEREAS, During his career as a software engineer,
Page 2, Line 4Commissioner Gaiter worked for companies, including Spectralogic,
Page 2, Line 5Hewlett-Packard, United Airlines, and Colorado State University and ran his own business, StarFire Enterprises; and

Page 2, Line 7WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Larimer County,
Page 2, Line 8Commissioner Gaiter was first appointed as the Larimer County
Page 2, Line 9Commissioner representing District 1 in a vacancy election in January
Page 2, Line 102010 and was elected to the same position in November 2010 and reelected in November 2014, going on to serve for eight years; and

Page 2, Line 12WHEREAS, As a dedicated public servant, Commissioner Gaiter
Page 2, Line 13served as chair of the Larimer County Board of Commissioners and president of Colorado Counties, Inc., among many other roles; and

Page 2, Line 15WHEREAS, Commissioner Gaiter was credited with promoting
Page 2, Line 16rural broadband access, helping to develop a five-year strategic plan, and supporting economic development work; and

Page 2, Line 18WHEREAS, Commissioner Gaiter was an active member of the
Page 2, Line 19Loveland Volunteer Ski Patrol for twenty-five years and a passionate
Page 2, Line 20Denver Broncos fan and participated in the boards of various nonprofit
Page 2, Line 21organizations, including Christian Home Educators of Colorado and Realities for Children; and

Page 2, Line 23WHEREAS, After a long battle with a rare blood cancer,
Page 2, Line 24Commissioner Gaiter passed away peacefully on September 18, 2018, with his wife, Jeannette, and other family members by his side; and

Page 2, Line 26WHEREAS, Commissioner Gaiter is remembered as "a man of
Page 2, Line 27great dedication to his work, strong faith, integrity, and courage"; now, therefore,

Page 2, Line 29Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:

Page 2, Line 31(1) That the portion of Colorado State Highway 1 in Larimer
Page 2, Line 32County from East County Road 60 to Interstate 25 be designated as the
Page 2, Line 33"Commissioner Lew Gaiter III Memorial Highway".
Page 3, Line 1(2) That the Colorado Department of Transportation may accept
Page 3, Line 2and expend gifts, grants, and donations for the purpose of the initial
Page 3, Line 3placement of signs to mark the portion of Colorado State Highway 1 in
Page 3, Line 4Larimer County from East County Road 60 to Interstate 25 as the "Commissioner Lew Gaiter III Memorial Highway".
Page 3, Line 5(3) That the Colorado Department of Transportation may explore
Page 3, Line 6a cooperative agreement with the Board of County Commissioners for
Page 3, Line 7Larimer County for the maintenance of the signs marking the "Commissioner Lew Gaiter III Memorial Highway".
