Page 1, Line 7collection and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products to
Page 1, Line 8patients for more than 80 years; and

Page 1, Line 10WHEREAS, In our communities, the need for a diverse blood
Page 1, Line 11supply is constant, but the supply is not, making volunteer blood donors
Page 1, Line 12the foundation for ensuring a safe and stable supply of blood available to
Page 1, Line 13help meet the medical needs of patients; and

Page 2, Line 1WHEREAS, A blood transfusion occurs in the United States every
Page 2, Line 2two seconds, but only 3% of the age-eligible population donates blood;

Page 2, Line 5WHEREAS, Type O blood is often used in trauma situations,
Page 2, Line 6making it the most needed blood type and most likely to be in short
Page 2, Line 7supply during a blood emergency; and

Page 2, Line 9WHEREAS, Patients requiring blood transfusions include cancer
Page 2, Line 10patients; accident, burn, and trauma victims; newborn babies and their
Page 2, Line 11mothers; transplant recipients; surgery patients; chronically transfused
Page 2, Line 12patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia; and many more;

Page 2, Line 15Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth
Page 2, Line 16General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:

Page 2, Line 18That we, the members of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly,
Page 2, Line 19hereby recognize the month of January as National Blood Donor Month
Page 2, Line 20in the State of Colorado. We hereby urge all citizens to celebrate the
Page 2, Line 21cause of blood donation and recognize volunteer blood donors for their
Page 2, Line 22generous gifts. We further urge all eligible blood donors to donate
Page 2, Line 23regularly, and we encourage businesses and organizations throughout the
Page 2, Line 24State of Colorado to sponsor community-based blood drives with
Page 2, Line 25Vitalant, among other blood centers, and provide citizens of our state with
Page 2, Line 26the opportunity to give.
