In current law, if a service member's driver's license expires while they are serving on active duty outside of Colorado, the driver's license expiration date is extended for 3 years or until 90 days after the service member returns to the state. The bill designates the service member's dependents as also subject to the extension of their driver's license expiration date.

• Page 2, Line 9on active duty outside of this state, shall or their dependent, does not

• Page 2, Line 10expire as provided in subsection (1) of this section, but such the

• Page 2, Line 11expiration date shall be is extended for a period of three years or until

• Page 2, Line 12ninety days after such the licensee returns to this state, whichever occurs first.

• Page 2, Line 13(6)  As used in this section:

• (a)  "Dependent" means:

• Page 2, Line 14(I)  A service member's spouse;

• (II)  A service member's child; and

• Page 2, Line 15(III)  An individual for whom a service member has provided

• Page 2, Line 16more than one-half of the individual's support for at least one

• Page 2, Line 17hundred eighty days immediately preceding the expiration of a license referred to in this section.

• Page 2, Line 18(b)  "Service member" means a member of the United States armed forces.

• Page 2, Line 19SECTION 2.  Act subject to petition - effective date. This act

• Page 2, Line 20takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on the day following the expiration of the

• Page 3, Line 1ninety-day period after final adjournment of the general assembly; except

• Page 3, Line 2that, if a referendum petition is filed pursuant to section 1 (3) of article V

• Page 3, Line 3of the state constitution against this act or an item, section, or part of this

• Page 3, Line 4act within such period, then the act, item, section, or part will not take

• Page 3, Line 5effect unless approved by the people at the general election to be held in

• Page 3, Line 6November 2026 and, in such case, will take effect on the date of the official declaration of the vote thereon by the governor.
