CONCERNING RECOGNITION AND REMEMBRANCE OF COLORADO MILITARY VETERANS WHO SERVED IN THE PERSIAN GULF WAR.

WHEREAS, American involvement in the Persian Gulf War began in 1990 with Operation Desert Shield, which marked the deployment of United States service members to Saudi Arabia in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait; and

WHEREAS, The deployment of United States service members to the Persian Gulf marked the beginning of a six-month-long war with Iraq that would eventually end following a successful aerial bombing campaign and ground invasion referred to as Operation Desert Storm; and

WHEREAS, The United States led a forty-two-country international coalition—the largest since World War II—with the purpose of liberating Iraqi-occupied Kuwait; and

WHEREAS, One hundred forty-three members of the United States Armed Forces, including three Coloradans, were killed in action over the course of the Gulf War; and

WHEREAS, It is, and will forever remain, society's solemn obligation to recognize the service rendered by Gulf War veterans and the sacrifice associated with that service; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:

That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, hereby:

(1)  Acknowledge and recognize the veterans of the Gulf War for the service they rendered;

(2)  Honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives in service to their country;

(3)  Express our heartfelt gratitude and sympathy to the families of fallen service members; and

(4)  Encourage all Coloradans to remember the sacrifices made by Gulf War veterans and their families.

Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent to the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; the United Veterans Coalition of Colorado; the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump; the honorable Jared Polis, Governor of Colorado; and the Colorado Congressional delegation.
