CONCERNING A JOINT SESSION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE PURPOSE OF HEARING A MESSAGE FROM REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UTE MOUNTAIN UTE TRIBAL COUNCIL AND THE SOUTHERN UTE TRIBAL COUNCIL, AND, IN CONNECTION THEREWITH, APPOINTING A COMMITTEE TO ESCORT THE TRIBAL REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, The Colorado General Assembly is proud to recognize Colorado's two resident tribes: The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe of Towaoc and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe near Ignacio, as well as their sister tribe, the Ute Indian Tribe of Fort Duchesne, Utah, collectively referred to as the Nuuchiu; and
WHEREAS, The three Ute Nations, currently made up of six bands--the Weenuche, Kaputa, Mouache, Uncompahgre, Uintah, and White River--have played a unique and distinguished role in our state's heritage and culture since time immemorial; and
WHEREAS, The contributions of the Nuuchiu to government, medicine, education, religion, the environment, the economy, and the military in our state constitute an ongoing and vital force shaping the Colorado we know today; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Colorado General Assembly remain committed to maintaining strong, respectful relationships between our state government and the sovereign Tribal Nations with whom we share this state; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:
That a Joint Session of the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Second Regular Session of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly be held in the House Chambers at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, for the purpose of hearing a message from Tribal Representatives from the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Council and the Southern Ute Tribal Council, and that a committee of three members from the Senate and three members from the House of Representatives be appointed by the
President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively, to escort the Tribal Representatives to the Joint Session.
