Current law allows the use of the Colorado coordinate system of 1927 and the Colorado coordinate system of 1983 established by the national geodetic survey to state the geographic positions or locations of points on the surface of the earth within the state. The bill allows the use of the most recent or a prior version of the state plane coordinate system for the same purpose.

Page 2, Line 2SECTION 1. In Colorado Revised Statutes, add 38-52-106.5 as follows:
Page 2, Line 338-52-106.5. State plane coordinate system updates.
Page 2, Line 4(1) Notwithstanding any provision in this article 52 to the
Page 2, Line 5contrary, except as set forth in section 38-52-104, a person may
Page 2, Line 6use the most recent or a prior version of the state plane
Page 2, Line 7coordinate system established by the national geodetic survey
Page 2, Line 8or its successor organization to state the geographic positions
Page 2, Line 9or locations of points on the surface of the earth within the state.
Page 2, Line 10(2) Nothing in this section prohibits a person from using
Page 2, Line 11the Colorado coordinate system of 1927 or the Colorado
Page 2, Line 12coordinate system of 1983, as those terms are defined in section
Page 2, Line 1338-52-101 (1), to state the geographic positions or locations of points on the surface of the earth within the state.
Page 2, Line 14SECTION 2. Act subject to petition - effective date. This act
Page 2, Line 15takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on the day following the expiration of the
Page 2, Line 16ninety-day period after final adjournment of the general assembly; except
Page 2, Line 17that, if a referendum petition is filed pursuant to section 1 (3) of article V
Page 2, Line 18of the state constitution against this act or an item, section, or part of this
Page 2, Line 19act within such period, then the act, item, section, or part will not take
Page 2, Line 20effect unless approved by the people at the general election to be held in
Page 2, Line 21November 2026 and, in such case, will take effect on the date of the official declaration of the vote thereon by the governor.
