CONCERNING RECOGNIZING THURSDAY MARCH 20, 2025, AS NOWRUZ DAY.
WHEREAS, Nowruz, meaning "new day", is an ancient festival celebrated by millions of people of Iranian, Kurdish, Afghan, and Central Asian heritage around the world, marking the arrival of spring and the Persian New Year; and
WHEREAS, Nowruz has been observed for over 3,000 years as a time of renewal, reflection, and unity, bringing together families and communities in celebration of hope, harmony, and cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, The traditions of Nowruz, including the Haft-Seen table, the Chaharshanbe Suri fire festival, and Sizdah Bedar, promote values of renewal, gratitude, and environmental stewardship; and
WHEREAS, Colorado is home to a vibrant Iranian-American community that enriches the cultural fabric of our state through contributions in academia, business, the arts, and public service; and
WHEREAS, The Woman, Life, Freedom movement rooted in Iran represents the aspiration for a society that honors human rights, particularly women's and children's rights, gender equity, and economic justice; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing Nowruz fosters inclusivity and affirms Colorado's commitment to celebrating the diverse cultural traditions of its residents; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:
That the Colorado General Assembly honors the celebration of Nowruz, extends best wishes to all those observing this joyous occasion, and recognizes the contributions of the Iranian-American community to the state of Colorado.
Be It Further Resolved, That this resolution be sent to Iranian-American organizations, community leaders, and cultural institutions in recognition of Nowruz and its significance.
