Page 1, Line 2March to recognize and honor the profound and enduring contributions
Page 1, Line 3that women have made throughout history in every sphere of life; women
Page 1, Line 4have been leaders every step of the way, securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity; and

Page 1, Line 6WHEREAS, Through their contributions to the abolitionist
Page 1, Line 7movement, the emancipation movement, the industrial labor movement,
Page 1, Line 8the civil rights movement, and especially the peace movement, women have worked to create a more fair and just society for all; and

Page 1, Line 10WHEREAS, March 8 is International Women's Day, a global
Page 1, Line 11celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements
Page 1, Line 12of women, and a call to action for advancing gender equality worldwide; and

Page 2, Line 2WHEREAS, Women have played a critical role in shaping history,
Page 2, Line 3from warriors to world leaders, artists to activists, educators to
Page 2, Line 4entrepreneurs, and scientists to social reformers, and their stories are often untold or underrepresented; and

Page 2, Line 6WHEREAS, March 25 is Equal Pay Day, and is used to raise
Page 2, Line 7awareness about the ongoing gender pay gap and how the pay gap varies
Page 2, Line 8significantly among different communities, particularly for women of color; and

Page 2, Line 10WHEREAS, Women and girls contribute to every sector of society
Page 2, Line 11and deserve to have their rights and opportunities protected and enhanced
Page 2, Line 12regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socioeconomic background; and

Page 2, Line 14WHEREAS, Throughout history, women have fought tirelessly for
Page 2, Line 15equal rights, justice, and recognition, often overcoming systemic barriers,
Page 2, Line 16prejudice, and inequality to create lasting social change, and have

Page 2, Line 18leaving legacies that continue to inspire generations of women around the
Page 2, Line 19world, and working tirelessly to ensure that the doors opened by those
Page 2, Line 20who came before us remain open for the next generation of women leaders, thinkers, and changemakers; and

Page 2, Line 22WHEREAS, Women have made significant strides in economic
Page 2, Line 23empowerment, establishing businesses, securing wealth, and leading
Page 2, Line 24industries, while challenging societal norms and expanding economic
Page 2, Line 25opportunities for women of all races and backgrounds, and have
Page 2, Line 26demonstrated leadership, ingenuity, and persistence in achieving success; and

Page 2, Line 28WHEREAS, Colorado was the first state to give women the right
Page 2, Line 29to vote through a popular election, and the first state to swear women into
Page 2, Line 30the General Assembly, and Colorado women have always been at the
Page 2, Line 31forefront of political and civic engagement, advocating for the rights of
Page 2, Line 32all people and shaping state policy. The first women elected to the
Page 2, Line 33Colorado General Assembly were Clara Cressingham, Frances S. Klock, and Carrie C. Holly; and

Page 3, Line 1within the Colorado General Assembly include Arie Parks Taylor, the
Page 3, Line 2first African American woman elected to the Colorado General
Page 3, Line 3Assembly; Polly Baca, the first minority woman and first Latina elected
Page 3, Line 4to the Colorado State Senate, the first Latina in the nation to serve in both
Page 3, Line 5the House of Representatives and the Senate of her state legislature, and
Page 3, Line 6the first Latina to serve in leadership in any state legislature within the
Page 3, Line 7United States; and Norma Anderson, the first woman to serve as Majority
Page 3, Line 8Leader in both the Colorado House of Representatives and the Colorado State Senate; and

Page 3, Line 10WHEREAS, Women legislators play a vital role in addressing
Page 3, Line 11difficult social and economic issues and helping our country and the state
Page 3, Line 12of Colorado prepare for the future, and Colorado currently has 52 women
Page 3, Line 13serving in the General Assembly, which is the largest number of women
Page 3, Line 14in the legislature in Colorado's history; and women make up almost 60% of the membership of the House of Representatives; now, therefore,

Page 3, Line 16Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly of the State of Colorado:

Page 3, Line 18(1) That we, the Colorado Senate, hereby honor the achievements,
Page 3, Line 19contributions, and resilience of women throughout history, celebrating the
Page 3, Line 20strength, wisdom, and courage of all women who have shaped our world; and

Page 3, Line 22(2) That we encourage the continued celebration of Women's
Page 3, Line 23History Month as a means to reflect on the achievements of women past,
Page 3, Line 24present, and future, and to inspire ongoing efforts toward a future in
Page 3, Line 25which gender equality is fully realized, in which every woman has the
Page 3, Line 26opportunity to succeed, and in which the power of women's voices is valued and respected in every corner of Colorado; and

Page 3, Line 29empowerment, education, and equality by continuing to support policies
Page 3, Line 30that eliminate barriers to opportunity, recognizing the indispensable role
