The bill prohibits a peace officer from asking a driver or passenger if they know the reason for the traffic stop, and requires the peace officer to inform the driver of the reason for the traffic stop unless it is unreasonable under the totality of the circumstances.
A peace officer's failure to comply with the bill is not grounds for exclusion of evidence or dismissal of a charge.

Page 2, Line 2SECTION 1. In Colorado Revised Statutes, add 42-4-1704.5 as follows:
Page 2, Line 342-4-1704.5. Peace officer questioning during a traffic stop.
Page 2, Line 4(1) A peace officer who is making a traffic stop shall not ask the
Page 2, Line 5vehicle operator or a passenger if the vehicle operator or passenger knows the reason for the traffic stop.
Page 2, Line 6(2) A peace officer who is making a traffic stop shall
Page 2, Line 7inform the vehicle operator of the reason or reasons for the
Page 2, Line 8traffic stop, unless informing the operator of the reason or
Page 2, Line 9reasons for the traffic stop would be unreasonable under the totality of the circumstances.
