CONCERNING THE RECOGNITION OF SINGLE PARENT DAY.
WHEREAS, The greatest need of every child is to be loved; and
WHEREAS, Parents invest an immeasurable amount of time, energy, and devotion to raise their children and to provide them with the support and guidance required to become responsible, productive, and successful adults; and
WHEREAS, The responsibility of raising children is particularly difficult when it falls on the shoulders of a single parent, whether it be due to divorce, death, or any other circumstance; and
WHEREAS, According to United States Census data, almost a quarter of United States families with children under 18 years of age are single-parent families, amounting to over 10 million households; and
WHEREAS, In 2023, over 15 million children were living in single-parent families in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Single parents deserve respect and recognition for their dedication and achievements; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, then-President Ronald Reagan declared March 21 as "National Single Parent Day"; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:
That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, continue to designate March 21 as "Single Parent Day in Colorado" in respectful recognition of single parents in Colorado.
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this joint resolution be sent to Janice S. Moglen, longtime Colorado advocate for Single Parent Day.
