Page 1, Line 1WHEREAS, The Colorado General Assembly is proud to
Page 1, Line 2recognize Colorado's two resident tribes: The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe of
Page 1, Line 3Towaoc and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe near Ignacio, as well as their
Page 1, Line 4sister tribe, the Ute Indian Tribe of Fort Duchesne, Utah, collectively
Page 1, Line 5referred to as the Nuuchiu; and

Page 1, Line 7WHEREAS, The three Ute Nations, currently made up of six
Page 2, Line 1bands--the Weenuche, Kaputa, Mouache, Uncompahgre, Uintah, and
Page 2, Line 2White River--have played a unique and distinguished role in our state's
Page 2, Line 3heritage and culture since time immemorial; and
Page 2, Line 4
Page 2, Line 5WHEREAS, The contributions of the Nuuchiu to government,
Page 2, Line 6medicine, education, religion, the environment, the economy, and the
Page 2, Line 7military in our state constitute an ongoing and vital force shaping the
Page 2, Line 8Colorado we know today; and

Page 2, Line 10WHEREAS, The members of the Colorado General Assembly
Page 2, Line 11remain committed to maintaining strong, respectful relationships between
Page 2, Line 12our state government and the sovereign Tribal Nations with whom we
Page 2, Line 13share this state; now, therefore,

Page 2, Line 22Tribal Representatives from the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Council and the
Page 2, Line 23Southern Ute Tribal Council, and that a committee of three members from
Page 2, Line 24the Senate and three members from the House of Representatives be
Page 2, Line 25appointed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of
Page 2, Line 26Representatives, respectively, to escort the Tribal Representatives to the
Page 2, Line 27Joint Session.
