Use less pressure. No harm done, and it was easy to install the included belt. This will allow its built-in adjustable support leg to prevent a roll over disaster. So far, i have used this machine for light sanding on wood and metal materials without drama.

If it turns out to last for a reasonable amount of time, i will award it an additional star. Definitely glad i bought this model, priced right. Because if the direct drive, this product is larger than necessary and a bit cumbersome.

The worst part for me is the trays are really flimsy and do not hold angles well at all. The miter gauge is also worthless. Because the table is so weak and flimsy, this sander is only good for free hand sanding.

I suggest you buy something with positive locks and better angle measuring. Should you be considering the wen t, i strongly advise you to spend the extra money and purchase this bucktool bd I returned two defective wens then bit the bullet paying the increased cost.

This bucktool runs quiet, smooth, and does an excellent job. I use this belt sander for metal. Read tons of reviews and watched a boat load of vid reviews and ended up selecting this gritty machine. Mounted on a moveable stand and got after it. Would have preferred a bigger dust port but purchased a reducer to hook up to my dust collection system. I have used both the disc and belt and really think this thing is a steal. Good solid sander for my small projects.

Noise level on this machine is low. This is a much needed and very nice addition to my workshop. As others have noted, because it is direct drive, the sanding surfaces are at opposite ends, requiring manual manipulation of the unit, which is quite heavy and cumbersome after a few switches from disk to belt.

I find myself waving it off in favor of a hand sander just to avoid the dealing with it. However, i expected this to be the case. My main problem with this unit is that the dust ports, especially for the belt, are at a wrong, wrong, wrong angle. Aside from it being nearly useless in collecting dust, no adapter will fit it without having to move the unit in such a way that just the port hangs off of the table.

With the belt in horizontal or vertical configuration, the dust port is just trash because it points down towards the table. All are heavier, more dense wood. Use this for fabricating steel parts for welding holds up good so far like how much quieter it is over the harbor freight belt sander i had before needing this one to replace it after it died. Solid and sturdy sits solid on the bench with out mounting.

The set up is odd as the disk and belt are on opposite ends due to direct drive, the table moves when tightening making squaring it very difficult and it was missing one of the most important parts, the allen head screw, the one that tightens the belt assembly to the shaft. Solved the squaring issue and when bucktool found out i had a missing part they contacted me with an apology and wanted to know the part number as they would send it to me. The cord is mounted in the front and the switch to turn it on is mounted on the back.

Other than that , happy to have in shop. Understand that my review is based on very minimal use, however when i Pocket Hole Machine Harbor Freight Quart went to change out the sanding disc for the first time i was surprised to see that it was an 8-inch disc not 6 inch. Silly me just never noticed. While the product was what i expected for the price. I was disappointed that it looked like it had been refurbished.

You could see where it had been pride open then painted over. Called Fine Woodworking Belt Sander 85 amazon the had me reorder and send the first one back. Ended up sending the second one back and kept the first one. The drawbacks are the limited sanding area. The craftsman you can sand any length piece. The way it is configured makes it difficult to get to everything without moving it around.
