We've been walking through this for some time now. 02:16.150 --> 02:30.450 And Isaiah 66 is the prophet speaking by the leadership of the Holy Spirit of God desiring to create a dwelling place. 02:30.810 --> 02:37.630 Or let me rephrase that. Of God wanting to rest and to dwell among his people. 02:37.630 --> 02:47.950 And I've touched on this already for a few Sundays now, but this scripture in Isaiah 66 verses 1 and 2 has a twofold meeting to it. 02:47.990 --> 02:54.230 And what I mean by that, it has both, though it's in the Old Testament, it has New Testament language to it. 02:54.610 --> 03:01.750 So it's very beautiful. Does that make sense? 08:50.820 --> 08:52.720 And in knowing him, you love him more. 08:55.260 --> 09:03.520 If I was to trickle down, what is God really after? You're ready for this? If I was to trickle down it to like the core things, God desires, 09:13.940 --> 09:16.640 and this is a big statement. There's little statements within it, 09:16.640 --> 09:24.260 but the big statement, like the umbrella, is God desires to be known by his people. 09:25.440 --> 09:33.250 He desires for his creation to know who he is. 09:39.120 --> 09:48.260 So trembling at his word is having complete holy awe and reverence to the scriptures and to the spoken word of God. 09:49.620 --> 09:51.960 But let me just hit on the scriptures really quick. 09:53.300 --> 10:00.420 There is a question that rolls around in the churches, and I say churches, I'm making that plural, because it's amongst the Christian people. 10:01.220 --> 10:07.360 You don't know there's countless times, there is countless times that I've had people come to me, 10:07.500 --> 10:13.260 not just in this church, but in the church that I previously pastured at, and people that my wife and I have mentored. 10:13.260 --> 10:19.440 This is a question that countlessly gets asked to me, and it's pastor. 10:20.280 --> 10:25.180 Why do I have a hard time to read my scriptures? 10:26.400 --> 10:29.420 Why is the Bible boring to me? 10:30.100 --> 10:41.400 How can I cultivate a life to be consistent in reading my scriptures of being in the word, of studying the word on and so forth? 10:41.400 --> 10:46.240 I have come to a conclusion of why people ask that question. 10:46.800 --> 10:47.760 You ready for it? 10:48.340 --> 10:51.660 It is evidence that we are not yet dead to ourselves. 10:54.620 --> 11:00.640 You want to know the ultimate truth of why people struggle with not reading their scriptures? 11:01.660 --> 11:10.840 Is because for us, not just to read this word, but for us to understand this word, we got to be dead to ourselves. 11:12.500 --> 11:13.740 Let me give you an example. 11:14.640 --> 11:17.740 How many of you here are sports people? We like what we read. We can read it for hours. 12:07.220 --> 12:14.260 Countless hours. We read it. Why? Because those magazines don't require us to die to our flesh. 12:19.090 --> 12:26.650 The things that we scroll through, the binge scrolling, the reason why we do it for countless hours, 12:26.950 --> 12:30.710 it doesn't cause our flesh to die. 12:33.110 --> 12:37.330 But it actually enhances our flesh to live. 12:37.330 --> 12:42.670 And if you want to go medical and scientific, the dopamine increases in us. 12:44.910 --> 12:49.710 But when it comes to reading the scriptures and more than just reading them as a chore, 12:50.150 --> 12:55.830 but understanding them, you literally have to take your flesh, crucify it, 12:57.190 --> 13:02.650 die to it as Jesus said, those who lose their life shall what? Find it. 13:05.750 --> 13:12.970 The reason why a majority of the Western world, and the reason why I say the Western world is because this is where I live, 13:13.950 --> 13:19.010 the reason why a majority of the Western world in churches specifically, 13:19.310 --> 13:26.970 why we don't read our scriptures is simply the evidence of how selfish we are. 13:28.690 --> 13:32.070 That is the evidence of the state of the church. 13:33.890 --> 13:43.010 We are not yet dead to ourselves that our approach to the scriptures is this is the living word of God. 13:45.430 --> 13:53.510 This is my mana for the day. It says, don't spare the rod from a child. 16:03.730 --> 16:07.050 You're having marriage problems? Read Song of Solomon. 16:09.950 --> 16:16.850 You're having issues at work with your boss? Just read what Paul wrote about being a bond servant. 16:19.730 --> 16:25.790 Any troubles you literally, are you broken and in pain? Literally, literally, every answer you need for life is right here. 16:35.770 --> 16:43.270 So now my question is, why do our Bibles collect dust if we actually believe that? 16:45.750 --> 16:50.290 Do you see the lack of trembling at his word? I'm trying to give favor. I'm trying to be where you're at, 17:10.930 --> 17:19.590 but you're not even doing the basic fundamental things that I've required of those who want me to look at them, 17:19.670 --> 17:24.970 to be moved by them, to be captivated by them. He actually quotes the Old Testament. 19:32.330 --> 19:33.230 He says, 19:33.410 --> 19:41.310 All flesh is as grass and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. 19:42.570 --> 19:48.590 The grass withers and its flowers and its flower falls away, 19:48.750 --> 19:52.730 but the word of the Lord endures forever. 19:54.950 --> 20:03.590 To tremble at his word is to read this scripture and to literally let it sink so deep into us 20:04.310 --> 20:08.750 that generation after generation will pass away. 20:08.750 --> 20:14.810 And though we have not yet seen the fulfillment of God's word in that generation 20:14.810 --> 20:21.270 or in this generation or the third, but we know that God, your word is going to come to pass. 20:24.090 --> 20:29.850 Because men is like grass and their glory is like flowers of the field. 20:29.950 --> 20:33.410 The man, the grass withers, the flowers fall, but the word of God, 20:33.770 --> 20:36.710 the word of God endures forever. 20:36.710 --> 20:42.650 It continues. There is no end to the word of the Lord. 20:53.170 --> 20:54.050 There isn't. 20:57.640 --> 21:04.740 You know, when we read the scriptures in Joel, I was reminded of it this morning when I was with the Lord 21:04.740 --> 21:06.940 and I was talking with him this morning. 21:07.520 --> 21:14.640 And the prophet Joel, Peter quotes it in Acts, but Joel, the prophet Joel prophesies and he says that in the last days, 21:15.220 --> 21:16.640 I will pour out my spirit. 21:18.820 --> 21:24.280 I will pour out my spirit. In the last days, I will pour out my spirit on all flesh, is what the scripture says. 21:25.500 --> 21:30.180 And I was talking with the Lord about that and he was, the Holy Spirit was just speaking to me. 21:30.720 --> 21:36.400 And he said, son, he said, I just want you to know that I'm not, I don't move 21:37.160 --> 21:38.920 according to your emotions. 21:40.020 --> 21:44.200 I don't move according to, to even what you say. 21:45.680 --> 21:48.960 But he said, I move according to the word. 21:51.700 --> 21:53.580 Let me say that again to some of you here. 21:54.200 --> 22:05.400 We, we think that when you say something and it sounded good to you, you're like, oh yeah, the Holy Spirit is moving now. 22:05.400 --> 22:15.820 He's doing some things. Friend, I want to remind you this morning, the Holy Spirit does not move because you said something that was great. 22:16.860 --> 22:22.720 The Holy Spirit moves because the Father commanded him so. 22:24.280 --> 22:32.860 Now where the difference is when it comes to faith circles, if we speak what the word says, let me say that again. 22:32.860 --> 22:41.260 If we speak what the word says, what the Father has already commanded, then the Holy Spirit moved. 22:41.360 --> 22:51.240 Not because we said something different. We're just simply rehearsing or repeating what God the Father has said, which then the Holy Spirit moves according to the word. 22:52.940 --> 22:54.060 You following me? 22:56.660 --> 23:00.260 So to tremble is to know that his word endures. 23:00.640 --> 23:12.860 To tremble is to know that the Holy Spirit moves according to what the Father has said, not what Pastor Igor has said, not what some evangelist has said, not what some prophet has said. 23:13.320 --> 23:19.140 But because the word has said it, which allows the Holy Spirit to move. You with me? 23:20.300 --> 23:27.800 To tremble at his word, I'm kind of running through these quick. To tremble at his word is to live a life of repentance. 23:29.800 --> 23:36.940 Man, I wish we should get into a series on that. I think you touched a little bit that you might be going through that, correct Pastor Mary? On morning prayers? 23:38.400 --> 23:41.940 On what true biblical repentance actually is? 23:43.440 --> 23:50.740 In a nutshell, let me tell you what we've been told to. Not here in the church, but as a whole, like the church world. 23:51.480 --> 23:59.960 For us, repentance has become your call to the altar. Everybody sees you. Your sins are exposed. You're now in shame and condemnation. 24:00.880 --> 24:06.320 That's actually not biblical repentance, by the way. That's not biblical repentance. 24:10.920 --> 24:17.540 Repentance actually doesn't produce shame. Listen to me. Repentance actually produces joy. 24:21.870 --> 24:26.310 Biblical repentance produces joy. Remember that. 24:30.500 --> 24:37.520 One of the first things that the Holy Spirit does when he enters a room, Pastor and I were just talking about it this week. 24:37.520 --> 24:44.160 We may even touched on it on the podcast. One of the first things. I'm not saying the only thing or the first thing. 24:44.300 --> 24:56.460 But one of the first things that the Holy Spirit does when he steps into a room, or the way you recognize, and this is according to Acts, is that he comes to convict. 24:59.740 --> 25:07.800 That's how you can recognize that the Holy Spirit is in the room. Now, the next question is what's conviction? I don't have time to speak to you. 25:07.900 --> 25:17.220 You do your own studying. I literally don't have time to teach you today and what conviction is. I can tell you just real quick. 25:17.340 --> 25:24.860 I can tell you the difference between condemnation and conviction. Condemnation brings you to a dead end. Conviction gives you an avenue out. 25:25.980 --> 25:39.360 That's why biblical repentance produces joy. Alright, let's get serious. 27:01.800 --> 27:14.140 The word, the word of God to live a life of trembling at his word is to recognize that the word of God, both written and spoken, cuts deep. 27:18.080 --> 27:32.680 It cuts so deep that it literally exposes every heart and tension that you may have had that maybe it was, maybe it was out of innocence, whatever the case is. 27:32.680 --> 27:42.140 The word of God and to tremble at it will expose every heart and tension where you're looking at yourself real and raw. 27:43.440 --> 27:48.480 And it causes you to repent. That's what it does. 27:50.620 --> 27:57.020 There has been moments where, where I felt everything was great. I'm doing this and that and the other. 27:57.280 --> 28:01.540 Or like Pastor Verne says, couple three things. We're doing all these things. 28:02.680 --> 28:11.800 And then you get into a place with the Holy Spirit and he begins to touch an area that you thought you were doing phenomenal in. 28:12.240 --> 28:22.940 Your heart was right. It was steady. It was right there. The intention. And then he steps in by his word and he says, son, I've got to change some things here. 28:24.460 --> 28:29.880 And you're like, but the Holy Spirit wouldn't do that. That's condemnation. So to tremble at his word is to live a lifestyle of repentance. In our... now I say our because I'm an American citizen, so I can say this now. In our country, we have taken the word love and in my opinion what I've seen is we've taken the word and I've seen the evidence of it. 34:17.520 --> 34:25.700 We've taken the word love and we've actually diminished what it means to love. Someone or something. 34:27.460 --> 34:44.440 I mean, just notice how it's in our vocabulary and I've been working on myself on this. Honestly, I've been working on myself and I've been catching myself of when I should use that word and when I shouldn't use that word. 34:45.620 --> 34:58.510 But we'll say phrases like this. You're eating something and you say, oh, I love that food. You'll be driving somewhere and you see a place and you say, oh, I love that place. 35:00.350 --> 35:05.790 You'll be doing something like golfing or mini golfing if you're me and you say, oh, I love mini golfing. 35:08.550 --> 35:15.690 But see where we have taken the word love and we've diminished it is we actually have lost what it means to love something. 35:18.630 --> 35:25.170 That's exactly it. To love something is to literally, scripturally, biblically, what the biblical meaning of love is, what the word love actually means, it means you're going to lay your life down for it. 35:45.150 --> 35:53.070 Are you sure you want to lay down your life for that McChicken at McDonald's? Are you sure? Just think about it. 35:57.700 --> 36:16.280 Are you sure you want to lay down your life of going out to the mountains? Are you sure that is something that's of that much value that you're willing to lay down your life just so you can have a house where you love to live or you love a place? 36:19.000 --> 36:30.900 Are you sure you're willing to lay down your life for your golf game? Are you sure that is of value? Is that literally where your life is valued? It's that minuscule? 36:33.380 --> 36:44.340 That's how small you actually value your own life that you're willing to lay it down for something that will burn, perish and never be existing again? 36:47.870 --> 37:04.330 So when it comes to trembling at the word of God, it's willing. I am willing. Listen, I am willing and I have and I will and I will continue to lay down my life for the gospel. I am willing. 37:06.350 --> 37:18.710 It's in my bloodline. I have seen my grandpa. I have seen my uncle. I have seen my father lay down their lives for the scriptures. 37:21.570 --> 37:29.650 It's in my bloodline. I can't. It's like Paul says, even if I wanted to, I can't. It's in me because I love his word. 37:31.110 --> 37:44.850 Because if I don't get his word, I am starving. I am dying on the vine. If I don't read his word, if I don't hear his voice, if I don't hear his word, friends, I'm dying. 37:47.910 --> 37:56.770 So I would rather die knowing that I'm doing it for a greater cause than die knowing that it produces nothing but death. 38:01.060 --> 38:15.630 So to tremble at his word is to literally love his word. It's to love it. It's to lay down your life for it. It's to fulfill it. It's going to cost me everything. 38:16.050 --> 38:26.210 But God, God, I'm doing it because I love your word. He says, your word is a lamp unto my, your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path. 38:56.160 --> 39:08.120 This is what I mean, unless I read the scriptures, unless I hear what he is saying, the, the rama word of God, I am walking blind. 39:10.620 --> 39:24.420 This, this verse right here, when David is saying your word is a lamp unto my feet, what he's actually saying is, my God, I love your word because your word enlightens me and it tells me where to go. 39:27.180 --> 39:34.260 You ever woke up at three o'clock in the morning out of your bed and you stub your toe? I don't want to stub my spiritual toe. 39:37.400 --> 39:47.760 I don't want to walk in darkness aimlessly. Do you know how many people in this world walk aimlessly? I'm trembling at your word and I love, I love your word. 40:01.040 --> 40:10.600 So I tremble at it because when I love something or someone, I will do anything. My God, would we recognize that? I want to read a few scriptures here. 41:46.690 --> 41:54.190 Verse 162, I rejoice at your word as one who finds great treasure. 41:56.970 --> 42:07.190 Let me tell you something. If you found great treasure, if you walked out right now and then you ran back in and you said, woohoo, I won the power bowl or whatever, the lottery ticket. 42:07.710 --> 42:11.630 My first question would be, you should donate 10% because we're trying to build a church. Awesome. 42:12.910 --> 42:26.990 But you would be joyous. You would be joyous because you found treasure. So to love His word is to look at the scriptures of, I just found treasure. 42:31.180 --> 42:43.680 To love the word of God, remember, to tremble at it is to love it. But the attitude in that is that when I read the scriptures, my attitude and my heart posture should be, I just found some treasure. 42:46.880 --> 42:54.480 I just found treasure that is far more valuable than anything that is on this earth. You know why? Because His word is eternal. 42:55.260 --> 43:04.340 Remember 1 Peter chapter 1 verse 24, men is like grass, there are glories, flowers of the field, the grass withers, the flowers fall, but what remains? 43:05.200 --> 43:08.740 The word, both written and spoken. 43:11.920 --> 43:16.520 Let's read one more here. Let's go to the next one so I can wrap this up. 43:18.020 --> 43:23.620 To tremble at His word is, and Pastor, you really touched on it today, so I might bounce off of what you said. 43:24.860 --> 43:30.920 To tremble at His word is to walk and live in the fear of the Lord. 43:33.040 --> 43:40.200 And you hit the nail on the head when you said, the fear of the Lord and obedience go hand in hand. 43:44.340 --> 43:51.600 The fear of God and obeying what He has written and what He has said go hand in hand. 43:54.040 --> 44:06.820 And if we can live a life and walk in a manner that the fear of the Lord is all over it, God promises to look at us, according to Isaiah 66. 44:09.920 --> 44:17.500 God makes a promise, He says, on these ones I will look, He who trembles at my word, and like I'm stating here already, 44:17.500 --> 44:22.580 to tremble at His word is to live and walk in the fear of the Lord. 44:24.260 --> 44:28.760 Let me read a few scriptures that you did not read today yet, Pastor, Psalms 99. 44:33.190 --> 44:33.990 Psalms 99. 44:39.530 --> 44:45.510 The fear of the Lord is clean. Did you read that? You did, huh? Oh, I don't see I wasn't paying attention then. 44:49.450 --> 44:55.730 See, that's all God has you confess publicly right there. See, now that was repentance because right now I'm joyful. 44:55.990 --> 45:01.970 Y'all see that? I don't feel shameful. I feel so full of joy. My God. 45:07.380 --> 45:10.480 That's how He does it too. He's like, yeah, gotcha. 45:12.240 --> 45:17.140 The fear of the Lord is clean and during forever. That's the fear of the Lord. 45:17.360 --> 45:22.980 Let me read to you what the word of the Lord is. This is Psalm 126. Okay, so the fear of the Lord is clean. 45:24.460 --> 45:30.400 Psalm 12, chapter 12 verse 6 says the words of the Lord are pure. 45:33.580 --> 45:40.580 The words of the Lord are pure. It's deep. They understand that unless they are in the scriptures, they are dying on the vine. 46:57.700 --> 47:03.160 They understand that. They tremble at His word. You following me here? 47:04.380 --> 47:09.420 Let me share with you a quick testimony of trembling at His word and what it produces. 47:10.020 --> 47:15.440 This is somebody that I know very dearly. I've known this person for many, many years. 47:15.700 --> 47:19.020 And they shared this with me recently. I didn't even know they were going through this. 47:19.860 --> 47:23.700 Now I just want you to know I've known this person for 33 years now. 47:26.900 --> 47:32.880 And I was chatting with them about a week or two. No, I was longer now. Probably a month now. Wow. Time flies. 47:33.500 --> 47:44.240 And we were talking and we got on a subject of being in a place of where... 47:44.840 --> 47:47.120 Let me put it this way. Of hardship. 47:48.380 --> 47:51.280 That's an understatement of what this person was under. It's an understatement. 47:53.260 --> 47:59.680 This person was in a place of hardship and they couldn't turn to their pastor for whatever reason. 48:00.440 --> 48:04.400 And when they were literally at ends meet, they were at ends meet. 48:06.000 --> 48:09.820 They were going to turn to a person that they thought could help them. 48:11.200 --> 48:17.460 And right before they turned to this person to literally spill out all of their guts and tell them all this stuff. 48:18.340 --> 48:25.960 This individual finds out that the person that they thought they could trust and who could help them is literally in the same place as they are. 48:28.980 --> 48:32.560 So this individual was telling me they're like, I completely backpedaled. 48:34.520 --> 48:37.440 He was like, there was no way. He's like, they're almost... 48:37.440 --> 48:40.620 He said it, but I'm like, I don't think they were in it because I know the other person's situation too. 48:41.140 --> 48:43.940 He's like, they were almost in a worse situation than even I was. 48:44.200 --> 48:46.980 So he goes, I backpedaled. He said, I did nothing. 48:47.460 --> 48:51.640 He said, I didn't tell them. I didn't open up to them. He said, this is what I did. 48:54.540 --> 49:08.580 He said every day, he said there wasn't a day that did not go by that I either wasn't reading the scriptures or I was listening to the scriptures audibly. 49:09.920 --> 49:13.960 He goes, this went on for a long period of time. 49:13.960 --> 49:19.460 He's like, there is nobody that I can turn to. I have to go to the word because the word is Jesus. 49:22.400 --> 49:26.460 There is absolutely nobody that... I'm just telling you what this person told me. 49:26.480 --> 49:28.760 He said, there's absolutely nobody that could help me. 49:28.780 --> 49:32.840 There's nobody that I could turn to that could say, hey, you should do this, that, the other. 49:33.140 --> 49:36.740 He said, I turned to what I had my last hope in. 49:37.720 --> 49:39.120 And he said, it was the scriptures. 49:40.880 --> 49:45.860 He said, what the scriptures produced in him. See, this is trembling at the word, by the way. 49:46.140 --> 49:51.780 I'm sharing with you this testimony of evidence of what it means to tremble and what it actually produces. 49:52.940 --> 49:58.540 For a long period of time, it wasn't short friends. It wasn't, oh God, it's been a month. 49:58.880 --> 50:03.640 It was longer than a month. If I'm not mistaken, it was longer than a year. 50:05.160 --> 50:07.540 He said, I read the scriptures every day. 50:07.540 --> 50:12.540 I either read them or I listened to them as an audible book. 50:13.800 --> 50:19.900 He said, every day. There wasn't a day that I did not read nor hear the scriptures. 50:20.520 --> 50:26.620 And what the scriptures ended up doing, it ended up producing a solution for this man. 50:27.880 --> 50:33.160 And I wish this man had enough boldness. I would love to have him come up from the cities and share this testimony. 50:34.700 --> 50:38.280 He said, the only thing that could help me was the scriptures. 50:41.180 --> 50:46.820 Why? Because when we tremble at his word, God makes a promise, I'll look at you. 50:49.140 --> 50:53.860 He says, I'll look at you. And if I'm looking at you, I have favor on you. 50:54.600 --> 50:58.960 And if I have favor on you, that means I'm going to step into your situation. 50:58.960 --> 51:03.960 And that means if I step into your situation, I'm bringing about a solution. 51:04.400 --> 51:09.500 And that means if I'm bringing about a solution, that means life is coming with me. 51:10.240 --> 51:14.340 And when life is coming with me, that means joy is right there. 51:15.160 --> 51:18.220 And where joy is, that means attitude changes. 51:18.900 --> 51:21.220 That means heart posture changes. 51:21.620 --> 51:28.420 All of these things came from the fact that this person said there was nothing else that can help me unless 51:29.140 --> 51:32.520 I read the scriptures and I dive deep into them. 51:35.040 --> 51:40.600 The posture of I cannot miss a day to be in your word, God. Produce in us what you produced in the individual that I shared the testimony about. 59:11.480 --> 59:18.620 Your word does say that you reward those who diligently seek you and we cannot seek you without your scriptures. 59:18.620 --> 59:32.160 Because the very scriptures speak about you God.
