Hitchhiking was a common mode of transportation for his father, Owen Gent 40 (pictured), and fellow Aggies at the time. A cadet would present this card for the driver to use at a later date. If the driver happened to pass through the cadets town, especially a small rural town like my fathers hometown of Moody, Texas, they could show this card and townspeople would welcome them, offering refreshments and assistance, David said. It was a different time, and the vast majority of people were friendly and helpful to strangers in need. Texas A&M Universitys hitchhiking history can be traced along U.S. highways near and far, as cadets like Owen spread the Aggie Spirit along their journeys.Photo and note courtesy of David Gent 75.'
